The Big Idea

What if your child could design a Moon Base?

The next generation of space exploration will require more than students who can identify planets or explain rocket launches. It will require young people who can think like scientists, engineers, researchers and mission designers.

The Moon Base Architect Program challenges students to answer one extraordinary question:

"How would YOU design a sustainable human settlement on the Moon?"
The Approach

Not another space course.

The Mission Arc

The 20-week mission

Five phases. One escalating engineering challenge — from lunar science to a defended mission architecture.

The Mentoring Model

40 personalized mission development sessions

This is not a group lecture program. Every student receives two 30-minute personalized sessions every week — one focused on research, one focused on engineering.

Research Lab

  • Scientific concepts
  • Independent research
  • Case studies
  • Mission analysis
  • Mentor questioning

Mission Lab

  • Engineering decisions
  • Calculations
  • System design
  • Problem solving
  • Project development

Every session moves the student's Moon Base one step closer to reality.

What Students Will Design

Explore the Moon Base architecture

Twelve interdependent systems. Tap or hover a module to see what your child will engineer.

MODULE 01 / 12
Habitat
Design the pressurized living and working structure that keeps the crew safe from radiation, micrometeorites and temperature extremes.
Advanced Engineering

This is where space science becomes systems engineering.

Students are introduced to the same analytical frameworks used by real mission designers — explained in language a parent can follow, applied at a level a serious student can grow into.

The Final Project

One student. One Moon Base. One original mission.

Every program concludes with a complete Mission Dossier — a technical portfolio a student can present, defend, and carry forward.

    Mission Simulation

What happens when things go wrong?

Students won't only design the perfect Moon Base. They will be challenged with mission failures that force real-time engineering decisions.

    Can your Moon Base survive?

    Final Mission Review

The final test is not the design. It's the defence.

Students present their Moon Base architecture to reviewers and answer direct questions about their engineering decisions.

    Recognition

    Build. Defend. Get recognised.

Outstanding projects may be considered for SDRO's national recognition framework and eligible external competitions or opportunities, subject to their official rules and announcements.

    Who Is This For

Is your child ready for this mission?

This Program Is For Students Who

    • Have completed Citizen Science or similar projects
    • Already have a strong interest in space
    • Enjoy solving complex problems
    • Want to build something original
    • Are interested in astronomy, engineering or space technology
    • Are ready for an advanced challenge
    • Want a serious STEM portfolio project

    Not Ideal For

    • Complete beginners
    • Students looking only for basic astronomy
    • Students who prefer passive video learning
    For Parents

More than a course. A project your child can call their own.

Students develop scientific reasoning, systems thinking, research skills, engineering thinking, problem solving, communication, presentation and project ownership.
